Advocacy to curb illicit financial flows has only just begun

Advocacy work to curb illicit financial flows and increase financial transparency that can spur development is only getting started, the Financial Transparency Coalition said at the end of the 6th Financial Transparency Conference held in Jakarta, Indonesia last week.

The coalition which brings together civil society, governments, and the world’s foremost experts on illicit financial flows, explored ways to stop the illicit financial flows that are stifling economic growth and development and to strengthen the broader movement for financial transparency. 

Will the Next Government Prioritize Budget Transparency?: where we stand in 2015

Tanzanians more cynical about economic growth

There is now more negative public perception of Tanzania’s economic condition than a decade ago, a forum in Dar es Salaam was told today.

According to the Afrobarometer, an African-led, non-partisan research network that conducts public attitude surveys on democracy, governance and economic conditions on over 30 African countries, people in Tanzania are dissatisfied with the current economic condition of their country despite the average economic growth rate of above 6% that Tanzania has enjoyed throughout the last decade.

The Social Media and Organizational Performance Among Civil Society Organizations in Tanzania: The Case of Policy Forum and Selected Member Organizations

The use of social media in organizational activities has been increasing in all parts of the world including Tanzania both for individual communication and for organizational information sharing with stakeholders. In most cases, organizations including Civil Society Organizations have become users of social media aiming at improving organizational performance. The aim of this study was to assess the role of social media in organizational performance at Policy Forum and selected nine member organizations under Policy Forum.

Advancing public participation in the audit process in Tanzania

The National Audit Office of Tanzania (NAOT) is developing an initiative to enhance public participation in the audit process in the country as a means of advancing transparency and accountability in the use of public resources, the Controller and Auditor General (CAG), Mr. Ludovick Utouh, informed a multi-stakeholder platform in Dar es Salaam recently.

According to the CAG, history was being made by National Audit Office as it seeks to provide opportunities for media, citizens and their organisations to make significant contributions to the audit process in Tanzania.

Global movement launches international campaign to demand open and inclusive budgets

Tunis, March 25, 2013 – Today the Global Movement for Budget Transparency, Accountability and Participation (BTAP) launched the Make Budgets Public Now! Campaign at the World Social Forum. The Campaign seeks to increase budget transparency, accountability and participation in countries that currently have the least transparent budget processes, which dramatically reduces citizens’ ability to engage in decision-making processes that have a direct impact on their lives.
