The Commission of Human Rights and Good Governance (CHRAGG) has pledged to further enhance its interactions with civil society organisations so as to improve on extending the socio-economic rights so as to see the effective delivery of public service to the people of Tanzania. This vow was made by the Chairman of the commission Hon. Bahame Tom Nyanduga during a meeting with Policy Forum members.

Tanzanians have been urged to look closely at the relevance of global development goals to the local context if the country is to make substantive inroads to reduce poverty and inequality. This was one of the main sentiments emerging from a breakfast debate entitled: “MDGs and Post 2015 Development Agenda: Where are we and where are we heading?” organised by the Policy Forum.

Members of the Policy Forum Local Government Working Group (LGWG) have proposed that local government elections that were slated for October this year should be postponed and coupled with the 2015 general elections.

Civil Society Organizations have been praised for their contribution in educating the Tanzanian society on crucial issues including the ongoing constitutional making process. They have been advised, however, to provide solutions and advice to the government on key governance issues instead of merely criticizing the executive. 

Policy Forum has been commended for its effort to engage with Tanzanian institutions of accountability such as the Commission for Human Rights and Good Governance (CHRAGG) as means of promoting open and accountable governance in the country.

Policy Forum Members met on the 16th of August, 2013 in accordance with the Constitutional Review Act of 2011 to deliberate on the provisions of the Draft Constitution and outline areas of improvement to be sent to the Constitutional Review Commission before the August, 31st deadline.

The Tanzanian Commission for Human Rights and Good Governance (CHRAGG) on the 10th of April 2013 invited Policy Forum members and secretariat staff to a meeting to discuss ways the two organisations can complement each other in their work.

The guest of honour, Hon. Commissioner Bernadeta Gambishi thanked Policy Forum for the collaboration the network had been extending to the commission in the previous years and also appreciated the willingness to collaborate with CHRAGG.

Although the Tanzania Development Vision 2025 calls for a ‘developmental mindset’ focusing on economic growth that is ‘private sector-led’ with the state facilitating ‘strategic investments’ and ‘selective industrial support,' it was questionable that this was being implemented.
