Dialogue on the 'Political Situation during Election in Sub-Saharan Countries'
Legal and Human Rights Centre intends to conduct a dialogue on 'Political Situation during Election in Sub-Saharan Countries' (Case study Zimbabwe and Kenya). The dialogue will be conducted on Friday 18th of July, 2008 at University of Dar es Salaam, Theatre 1 from 14;00hr - 18;00hr.
Recently we have witnessed lots of violence and human rights abuse in Sub-Saharan countries during election. This trend has always resulted to unfair elections followed by lots of criticism from all over the world. As a result, these undemocratic elections cause lots of sufferings to the citizens together with creating a very tense political atmosphere in many of these countries as observed in the recent elections in Zimbabwe and Kenya
Objectives:
1. The dialogue is aimed at gathering stake holders to discuss the situation in reflection of the situation in Kenya, Zimbabwe and other Sub-Saharan countries. The dialogue will focus on the role and responsibilities of the political leaders and ruling parties in election process with the aim of coming up with the strategy for the way forward.
2. To come up with a common voice on Zimbabwe to condemn the electoral process as a response towards current violations of human rights, rule of law and democracy.
3. Raise awareness to the participants on the extent of human rights violations in these elections particularly Zimbabwe.
In this dialogue the presenter will be Dr. Adolf Mkenda from the University of Dar es Salaam and Jenerali Ulimwengu moderator and discussant.
