PF Weekly Update 30/06/2008

Welcome to our weekly update which is sent out every Monday to provide members with news and links to items of interest to the network that have been collected by the PF Secretariat during the previous week. Our updates typically include news from PF member organisations, notifications of new publications, announcements regarding meetings and events, and information on the latest job and training opportunities. 

This week’s updates: 

1. The Global Greengrants FundInformation about an NGO in the U.S. that funds grassroots environmental organizations in the global South (Green Grants; www.greengrants.org) to lay out the principles of social change that inform its grant giving activities. 2. New Additions to REPOA's Library

Research on Poverty Alleviation (REPOA), undertakes and facilitates research, conducts and coordinates training, and promotes dialogue and development of policy for pro-poor growth and poverty reduction. This month, REPOA’s library has publications and materials related to children’s issues and research methodology.  4. Budget Books on the Bunge WebsiteVolume II, III, and IV of the Budget Books are now available on www.parliament.go.tz. Some of the sections take a while to download so you will need to be patient.

 

 5. Progress for Arusha's street children and for Mkombozi's cooperation with local government following Sullivan Summit

6. Monitoring Government Policies: A Toolkit for Civil Society Organisations in AfricaThis toolkit explores ways of working for change by monitoring government policies. It is designed to help African civil society organisations analyse and monitor government policy implementation. It aims to help foster a conversation in society on policies and how well those policies work. High-quality research, accompanied by strong campaigning and lobbying, is, according to this document, a key way for local organisations to hold their governments to account. 7. HakiElimu Community Governance Programme - Tanzania

The Community Governance programme of HakiElimu, a Tanzanian non-profit organisation established in 2001, was designed to enable communities, including parents, teachers, and students, to transform schools and influence decision-making by facilitating participation in school and community governance. 8. Invitation to a Research Seminar – REPOA

Dr. Flora Kessy, from the IFAKARA Health Research and Development Centre, will present a draft report on the ongoing research study on “Widowhood and and Vulnerability to HIV and AIDS-related Shocks: Exploring the Resilience Avenues.” Date: 02/07/2008.
